Excerpt
He was still waiting when I joined him again, composed. He stood with his back against the wall, his hands lost deep into the folds of his pockets. He was studying his shoes, his hair falling in thick fringes over his eyes. Those blue eyes rose, crystalline pools of electricity, and met mine, and my world stopped. My breath stopped. My heart would have stopped if it wasn’t drumming a tempo of pure elation at the sight of him. It ached, so desperate for the need to be closer. God, it was never close enough. I could crawl into him, burrow into his soul and it wouldn’t be enough.
I took a step closer, as unsteady as a new born calf. He caught my hand, reeled me to him without ever pushing away from the wall. I was pulled into the space between his feet, held there as he bent my arm and twisted it around my own waist. I was pressed into him, his thighs hard against mine. I felt his heartbeat through the fingertips he traced over the curve of my cheek.
“Stop touching me,” I gasped, cotton-mouthed, half-crazed by the possibility that he might take me seriously.
“Why?” His breath fanned over my dry and already parted lips.
I opened my eyes, surprised to find them closed. “Because I won’t want you to stop.”
The band of steel around my waist tightened until I was supported only by him, by his arm, his chest, his heat, his scent… God, I was home! My fingers curled into the soft material of his fresh, clean shirt. He must have changed, but it was yet another black t-shirt.
“I can’t.” His lips wrote each word against mine in the caress of butterfly wings.
My bones liquefied. I nearly fainted.
“Why?” The single word was a mere movement of my lips.
His free hand shackled my chin, guided my face up, held me prisoner to eyes much too animal to be human. “Because I don’t want to stop.”
If there was ever any possibility of remembering to breathe, it was gone. I was barely conscious, barely even sane as I sunk into blissful madness cured only by his lips… his touch.
“Touch me!” My desperate plea was met with a fierce growl.
His eyes, dark, feral, bore into mine. “Not here!”
I opened my mouth to protest, to beg, but his finger against my lips became a barricade, trapping the words on my tongue.
“Don’t!” he hissed. His finger drew back, traced the curve of my bottom lip. His eyes followed the slow caress the way a cat watches a canary. “I can’t promise I’m completely in control right now.”

                                                                                    Author Bio
Airicka Phoenix is the best-selling author of the Touch Series with short stories in Whispered Beginnings: A Clever Fiction Anthology and Midnight Surrender Anthology. When she's not hammering away at the keyboard, she can be found banishing pirates or crawling through the attic looking for lost treasure with her kids. She loves baking, gardening and reading. She also likes to travel and take pictures of everything she comes across. When asked, Airicka describes herself as a sarcastic basket case that has an unhealthy addiction to chocolate, old movies and really bad jokes. She loves to laugh, make friends and write. If she could have one wish granted, it would be to spend one day as a fly-on-the-wall inside Stephen King's mind. If she could have two wishes granted, she would ask for a castle dedicated entirely to her overwhelming collection of books.

Cover revamp: Touching Smoke by Airicka Phoenix

For sixteen-year-old FALLON BRAEDEN being on the run had been the easiest part of her life. Packing up and crossing whole cities on a split second decision had been tedious, having no friends and being alone had been painful, but being caught by the truth was something she learned too late was worse.

Fallon is a weapon. She was created to destroy. Keeping her alive, keeping her safe is all Isaiah knows. It’s all that matters, because Fallon is his. She belongs to him. She is a part of his body, his soul, his heart. He will do anything, kill anyone to keep her, even if it means sacrificing himself.

But can Fallon believe the stranger on the motorcycle claiming he was there to die for her? How do you trust when you have no one but the memories of a girl you’ve never met and a tall, dark, gorgeous boy that you feel pulsing deep in your soul? What do you do when you’ve been lied to your whole life? When you’re told you’re normal even though nothing about you is normal? Fallon must learn quickly just what she is before the evil chasing her finally gets what it wants… her blood.

The world depends on her not falling in love, not giving in. But what happens when the temptation becomes too great, when falling is her only option? Can she live knowing the world will burn because his touch is the only thing keeping her alive?

Touch Passion. Touch Power. Touch Smoke!

Interview and Giveaway with Airicka Phoenix!

Today I have one of my favourite indie authors the blog. She is a wonderful person and amazing writer, so I hope you get to know her little more and will think about grabbing a copy of her fantastic books!

Thanks for stopping by Worlds of Wonderment, Airicka!

Hello Jo-Anne! Thank you so much for having me visit you and your readers! It’s wonderful being here.

Can you tell potential readers about your books?
Absolutely! I write paranormal Young Adult. My two books out right now are part of the Touch Series, but Touching Eternity is a standalone while Touching Smoke is book one. The Touch Series is about the dark side of love, the shadowy parts that most don’t know exist. It’s about Fallon and the fact that unlike most people, she wasn’t born, but created to destroy, created to be destroyed. Her love will kill.

Since Touching Smoke is part of a series, what can we expect from the Touch series as a whole?
You expect a lot of twists, a lot of action, suspense and romance. The Touch Series will have something for everyone. I think what most will notice as the series progresses that the Touch Series will hit home. Nothing about this series is supernatural. It’s everything that could happen. Its super powers, abilities that people for generations have claimed to possess. What’s to say that it doesn’t exist or that it couldn’t happen? All it would take is someone taking those abilities and twisting them to suit his purposes, to destroy.

Your paranormal world differs quite a lot from most, how would you describe it?
I think it has a lot of edge with some seriously dark undertones that keep you guessing and wondering if you should sleep with the lights on. Its modern meets dystopian meets monsters.

How do Isaiah and Amalie (Touching Eternity) differ from Isaiah and Fallon (Touching Smoke)?
Isaiah (Touching Eternity) is very confused. He’s very torn. His loyalties are tested, his boundaries, his self-worth and his courage. While Isaiah from Touching Smoke knows what needs to be done. He has no reservations. He has but one mission, one thought, one desire -- keeping Fallon safe.
Amalie is the polar opposite of Fallon. She’s soft and weak and scared. She’s broken. Fallon is strong and determined. She’s witty and refuses to be taken down without a fight.

Touching Eternity has some very confronting themes, were they hard to write?
I can’t speak for other authors, but for me, my characters are like my children. Seeing them hurt, seeing them suffering is pure anguish. There wasn’t a moment in Touching Eternity where I didn’t want to pull Amalie into my arms and protect her. Writing Touching Eternity was emotionally and mentally challenging. It took a great deal out of me.

Do you a have a preferred writing space or time?
I can write anywhere, but my best ideas usually come to me between 12am-4am. That’s when I do most of my writing.

Was there a specific reason you chose the self-publishing route?
I tried the traditional path. I sent Touching Smoke to several publishers and always got very polite responses back that it wasn’t a fit or that they didn’t have the space for such a book at the time, etc. So I shelved my desire to publish, thinking I would try again at a later time. Then a friend suggested I go at it myself, which was just terrifying at first. But I did my homework, asked about a million questions and finally decided why not.

What was the last book you read that blew you away?
I am a huge Rick Riordan fan. I just finished his entire Percy Jackson Series, Heroes of Olympus Series and am now on the Kane Chronicles. I think he’s an utter genius and he always keeps me reeling even after I set the book down.

What are some of your favourite hobbies or interests?
Reading. I am such a book hoarder. It’s a frightening obsession really. I love gardening, baking and craft making. I also do graphic designs for myself and others. But if I had to pick a single thing that I would pick to do for the rest of my life and that would be the adventures I have with my children. They keep me young and keep my muse hopping.

Is there anything you are working on that you would like to share?
I’m actually working on my first ever Contemporary. I’m quite proud of myself, because I don’t normally read or write it and it’s something that just came to me one day. It’s very fun and light which is such a huge jump from Touching Eternity. The book temporarily has no title, but it will be released Feb 14th, just in time for Valentine’s Day. It’s an action, suspense romance that takes us into the lives of Sophie and Spencer as they embark on a journey filled with broken hearts, new beginnings and a dark evil lurking in the shadows waiting to finish what it had started.

Thank you again so much for inviting me to visit with you. It has been incredible and such a fun journey! All the best to you and your readers!! <3

Review: Touching Smoke by Airicka Phoenix

Title: Touching Smoke (Touch book 1)
Author: Airicka Phoenix
Age Group: Young Adult
Release Date: July 31st 2012
Publishers: Self-published
Available from: Amazon

“What am I?”

“Mine… always!”

This summer… their love will annihilate the world!

For sixteen-year-old FALLON BRAEDEN, being haunted was just another day in the life of a gypsy, like being on the run had always been a closely guarded secret her mother would have happily taken to the grave… if her past hadn’t caught up with them.

But when Fallon is stalked by fire-throwing demons, nearly killed by rebel mutants and finds a soul mate she can never have, even her normally unusual life is thrown into a tangled web of love, lies and betrayal.

As worlds collide, secrets unfold and blood is spilt, Fallon comes to several unsettling revelations: she’s not entirely human, her creator has a bounty on her head and the only one who can save her is the one person she has to keep at arm’s length or risk destroying the world for.

******
Fallon isn't your average 16 year old. Her and her mother are constantly moving, never staying in one place too long. She has lived like this for as long as she can remember. Her world changes forever when she's attacked by fire-wielding demons and saved by a gorgeous blue-eyed stranger. Isaiah has spent his life protecting her from afar, now their lives have collided. What follows is a life altering realisation that she is not what she believes.

I was pleasantly surprised by Touching Smoke. I really enjoyed the reading the blurb, so I was more than happy to read it. I am so glad I did. It stands out from the crowd of your usual YA paranormal, having it's own addictive qualities. Strong female heroine? Check. Uber-gorgeous love interest? Check. Mysterious origins? Check. Page turner that will keep you reading into the wee hours? Check. So what exactly makes it stand out? Well I'm glad you asked. Airicka Phoenix has created a world all her own, with our leads on the run from the man who helped create them. They're not like us, and the quest to find out who and what they are is an exciting ride. There's something wild in Fallon that makes her stronger, faster and lusting for blood. Her journey of discovery is heartbreaking and intense. Her life is one lie after another and full of betrayals she never saw coming.

Isaiah's life has been just as tragic, his one goal being her protector. He is fierce in his protectiveness, always making sure she's safe no matter the harm to himself. There's a connection between them that  is undeniable and incredibly strong. But is any of what they feel real? Or does it lead back to their creator and what he has planned. Once you find out you'll be just as shocked as they are, but you never do learn what exactly it is. Fallon and Isaiah go out of their way to protect each other, with Fallon finding out just how far she is willing to go to defend him. She's kind of awesome in her fury. I loved reading about each revelation as they were learning it. I hate when books are so easily predictable and Touching Smoke is not one of them. There are so many twists and turns to keep you stuck to the pages.

Touching Smoke is unique and engaging, with an action-packed story line. You're sucked in straight away and spit out at the end, having gone on a roller coaster ride of sheer awesomeness, leaving you breathless and slightly bewildered that's it over . I hate having to wait for the next book is a series, this is going to be a long one. Get yourself a copy now!
